This globe is a holy grail of sorts for Disney Snowglobe collectors. It normally sells for hundreds of dollars on ebay and sometimes well over a thousand.
Poppins is my favorite of all the Disney movies. My mom got this snow globe when my oldest boys where small and used to play it while they sat on her lap. I lost mom three years ago. My youngest son broke that globe tonight and it broke my heart. Seeing that item was not only sentimental, but also desired just makes it worse! There is no way I could afford to replace it. My dad is trying to save the music base and Cathedral, but sadly the birds have flown away......
ReplyDeleteI am sure the globe could be fixed; a new glass dome filled with water reattached with the birds back in flight. Take it to a ceramics shop. Believe it can be fixed!
ReplyDeleteThere are a couple of professionals that I know of that repair water globes, including replacing glass globe, replication/repair of some objects, removal of air bubbles, cloudy water, etc. Think of it similar to an aquarium. The replacement cost of a globe is actually inexpensive. Here are two professional water globe technicians that repair and custom build snow/water globes. Robert@SnowGlobeRepair.com and the other is Heibel Craftworks 1-507-645-4571. I would leave the repair to a professional.I hope this helped.
ReplyDeletePlease can you let me know where I can find this snowglobe ?
ReplyDeleteoliviertijtgat@yahoo.com
like all the others, it can be found once in awhile on ebay. Be prepared to pay well over $600.
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to get a replica? My Grandma always wanted one...

It'sd so sad for me, I remember it from the disney calatog- it was, I think, 45-65 dollars but we had just had our first child, bought our first home and I really wanted it, but couldn't justify the money spent on a snowglobe... now we could easily swing it and I can't get one.

I have this globe. I am planning to sell it. The liquid is cloudy. Will I get a better price if I have it cleaned, or should I leave it as is?
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to get an unreasonable price.
Lengthy explanation:
I have tea every week with a friend who collects music boxes. She has some music box snow globes, likes snow globe music boxes especially and was showing me a new one. I remarked that I didn't really care about snow globes but would love to have one that was like the one in 'Mary Poppins' and played the song.
Two days later there it was, in a Goodwill thrift store. I bought it for five dollars.
I wondered if maybe the liquid was supposed to be foggy. London foggy, like. So I looked it up and was shocked to find how big a deal this globe is among collectors, and how valuable.
Recently some friends of mine who can't get/stay pregnant announced their intention to adopt a second baby. They're not rich but they're great, their son is having so much fun and is so loved. Any baby of theirs will be a rich baby. They are asking for help with the adoption fee costs (huge!) and I want to sell the globe for that.

It's missing the wooden base bit. It plays the tune very well. Usually the quality of the music-box in these things isn't as good.
Any advice as to how to get the best possible price would be appreciated.
The good news is you only paid $5 for it and it should sell for more then that. The bad news is these don't sell for as much as they had been since the economic downturn. If you had the base i would say its worth getting the water changed out but since you don't it is incomplete and probably not worth the expense. Hard to say what kind of interest you will get on ebay since it does not have the base but that is still the place to try and sell it. Make sure you have Disney, Mary Poppins and snowglobe in the title. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's only about $20 to have the liquid changed. If I can't get a good sight more than that for it, I'll keep it.
ReplyDeleteAny guesses as to its worth without that base?
I would hope you might still get a couple of hundred for it. I remember one selling that had terrible water and was half empty but it still sold for around 500 or so. Obviously someone was willing to restore it. The problem here is that without the base it cant be completely restored to a condition that someone will want to pay a huge amount for it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize it was so inexpensive to have the liquid changed. If thats all it costs, by all means do it even if you do end up keeping it.
II am looking for one of these globes.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone has one for sale please contact me patonstacey@gmail.com.

Hi! I have been looking for this globe for years for my father, as he saw the movie when it first came out with all his sisters and brothers. He has other memorabilia but this would be the cherry on the sundae. Will make an old man very happy (after he recovers from fainting)! My email is AUDIEME@GMAIL.COM Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI have this snowglobe and I've decided to put it up for auction on Ebay. The water was beginning to get cloudy so I'm having it professionally changed. There is also a spot of missing lacquer on the base that is being repaired as best as possible. If all goes well it should be up in 7 to 10 days. I hope it can find a new home for Christmas. No promises, because I won't put it up if it isn't "near perfect"
ReplyDeleteANY luck in selling it? I am serious about buying it contact suzanne email >> orsinis@uphs.upenn.edu
